StrongHelp is a freeware hypertext browser for RiscOS computers,
programmed by Guttorm Vik. The advantages over traditional HTML
browsers are that:
- It's quite compact (32K for the moment).
- It's fast.
- It can insert vector files (and bitmap).
- It supports compression of datas through the Squash
module.
- There is a protocol allowing for a word lookup in the
StrongHelp database with a keystroke from your favourite text
editor!
Have a look at Guttorm's Home
page for more info on StrongHelp and StrongEd !
While building a complex stronghelp manual, you can get lost
with the number of links to handle (as you would with a HTML page).
Musus Umbra programmed an utility called
StrongTest to test validity of links in a StrongHelp manual. It
uses the Throwback protocol to generate a list of errors. One
double-click and you're directed in the file where the error
occured. As source file is also given, you may also improve it if
you like !
My own manuals
I've compiled some info into several manuals:
- Internet/IRC Acronyms: A handy manual
for whoever wants to have instant translation of (un)common
Internet acronyms from within their text editor, while reading
their e-mail or news.

- Computer Glossary: A mini
dictionnary of a number of several computer or internet-related
jargon. Could be used for mere browsing or for instant translation
from within text editor.
A better alternative would be to have FOLDOC, the On-line Computer
Dictionnary, converted into a StrongHelp manual. Instead of
converting by hand, a utility could be written in C so that its
author (Dennis Howe) can do the operation from within his
environnement. Basically, what's needed is a HTML to StrongHelp
converter. If you think you can come up with something, please
contact Dennis Howe, not me !

- POVray3 hypertext help: A while ago, I
did a POV2.2 StrongHelp (version 1) manual. Then I was stuck for
converting it to StrongHelp 2 because of the lack of conversion
tools for that. And then POVray3 came out. And then, I had to start
from scratch the whole thingie. It's now bigger, with some
technical schemes from time to time, but it's not complete. It
lacks the texture section (pigment, finish, normals, patterns,
etc...). If you think you can achieve something better, it's OK for
me. Just send me an e-mail for notification, please, and an URL to
retrieve the updated version with a browser.
THIS MANUAL IS BASED ON POVRAY 3.0 LARGELY SUPERCEDED BY POVRAY 3.1
